Cricket World Cup 2019: How to take Monday off work without being too suspicious

The moment is nearly here New Zealand. The Cricket World Cup final at the home of the sport - Lords in the UK, against hosts England. Could we have imagined a better spectacle?

But the time of the first ball - Sunday at 9:30pm NZ time, isn't exactly something to get excited about. The game will likely run into the early hours, meaning an almost all-nighter will be required.

Nonetheless, the Blackcaps are going to need you to prepare those coffees, snacks, and whatever else you might need to stay awake. Let's get in behind our boys in black.

Now, pulling an all-nighter and going to work on a Monday might not be so tricky for some, but if you really don't think you can handle eight hours on the grind, then look no further.

Here's how you can take the day off without being too suspicious:

  • For the remainder of Friday, spout on about how much you hate cricket and how you couldn't care less about the result in front of your boss. Come Monday morning, you can call in sick and he/she won't suspect a thing.
  • Taking one day off is too obvious - give yourself Tuesday if you want to make your "sickness" look really legitimate (that way you have more time to celebrate the Blackcaps maiden Cricket World Cup title - win/win.

  • Drop a cheeky Facebook status on Saturday about how bad you're feeling - that way your colleagues will think your sickness has built up over the weekend. Other than that, avoid social media like the plague. If you're watching the game with mates and tucking into a few beers, don't photos that might be posted on social media, otherwise, your cover will be completely blown.
  • There's still a few hours left of the working week, so use it wisely. Start complaining about how you're not feeling well - it will look like you went in to the weekend with a genuine illness. When you call in sick on Monday, your boss will think you simply haven't recovered.

Strap yourself in, New Zealand, the Cricket World Cup is nearly home.
