ANBL: Breakers stars take show on road

The New Zealand Breakers have confirmed they're taking two of their home games to Christchurch during the next ANBL season.

It means fans in the South Island will get a glimpse of one of the club's big signings in RJ Hampton, who's been busy since arriving in the country over the weekend.

The 18-year-old only arrived in the country on Saturday but the new Breakers' import's already out and about promoting the club.

His visit to Auckland's Rosmini College is the first of many.

"I'm not really much different from them," Hampton told Newshub. "I just got out of high school and still could be in high school, so I know what they're going through."

It's this push for a wider fanbase that's prompted club owner Matt Walsh to take two games to Christchurch.

"One of the things we've talked about is we're not the Auckland Breakers, we're the New Zealand Breakers," said Walsh.

The club want to be more visible, and Walsh says the players have to drive it..

"It's a big responsibility to be a Breaker and you have to do these community events."
