Cricket: Blackcaps captain Kane Williamson celebrates birthday with cake on field

Blackcaps captain Kane Williamson received a nice surprise for his 29th birthday as Sri Lankan cricket fans presented him with a cake to celebrate his special day.

Williamson and the Blackcaps are currently contesting a three-day warm-up match against the Sri Lanka Cricket President's XI in Katunayake, ahead of a two-test series, starting on August 14 in Galle.

Having learned that it was Williamson's birthday, a group of Sri Lankan spectators brought a cake to the boundary rope and beckoned Williamson over.

Williamson trotted over to the fans during a drinks break and took a big bite out of the cake. He then posed for some photos before returning to his place on the field.

At the end of the day, Williamson was presented another cake by his Blackcaps teammates in the changing rooms.

Williamson won the hearts of many cricketing fans in the recently concluded Cricket World Cup, for maintaining a calm composure despite ending up as runners-up of the world tournament.

While there were plenty of celebrations off the field, there weren't many on it as rain delayed the start of play on day one of the three-day fixture.

The Sri Lanka Board President's XI battered first and finished the day on 323/6 from 65.5 overs.

Spinner Ajaz Patel was the pick of the Blackcaps players, finishing play with figures of 5/41 from 10 overs.
