Top women's cyclist Kirsten Wild was disqualified from the RideLondon Classique, after causing a massive crash on the sprint to the finish line on Sunday (NZ time).
On the home straight, Wild cut across the pack and her back wheel was clipped by Chloe Hosking, resulting in a horrific pile-up involving at least 20 riders.
Wild came through on the inside to win the race, but after a review, she was penalised and disqualified for her sudden change of direction.
Victory was awarded to fellow Dutch rider Lorena Wiebes with a time of 1h 33m 56s.
Speaking after the race, Wild - the race's defending champion - appeared to deny any involvement in the crash.
"I didn't see the crash," she told the BBC. "It was behind me, it was really hectic.
"I was only looking for the finish line."
The RideLondon Classique is the women's richest one-day cycling event, with Wiebes pocketing prize money worth £91,500 (NZ$170,142) prize money.
