New Zealand's Michael Venus and Chinese Taipei partner Hao-Ching Chan were beaten in the 2019 US Open mixed doubles final on Sunday (NZ time).

The pair lost to defending champions Jamie Murray of Scotland and American Bethanie Mattek Sands 6-2, 6-3 in 59 minutes on Arthur Ashe Stadium court.

Venus and Chan also lost in the 2017 US Open final to Murray - brother of Andy - when he played with Swiss great Martina Hingis.

"We played amazing the whole two weeks, especially the semi-finals and finals," Murray said. "I know Beth loves playing in front of a lot of people, and she was on fire today."

The triumph was Murray's fifth Grand Slam mixed doubles title, and Mattek-Sands' third.

Venus and Chan will split US$76,000 (NZ$118,263) for finishing second.
