The Breakers have announced Mody Maor as their new assistant coach for the upcoming ANBL campaign.

Maor worked with the Breakers' new director of basketball Dan Shamir at Israeli league side Hapoel Holon, as well as at the helm of the Israel national team.

“Everyone will like Modi here," said Shamir.  "He has a lot of knowledge, he is American who is a multi-cultural guy who has been in a lot of places both professionally and personally and he has a lot to contribute.

"He's a great guy, very knowledgeable and a true partner, I’m delighted that he is joining us."

Maor replaces Mike Fitchett, who confirmed his resignation on Sunday, six days out from their ANBL season opener against the Sydney Kings on Friday.

Despite hiring from overseas, Shamir says the Breakers are committed to creating pathways for New Zealanders wanting to make a career in basketball.

"I came here with the mindset of coming to a new place, meeting new people and working with people who knew the organisation and know the mentality.

"But there is nobody in the local market right now who can fill this position and absolutely the best thing is to bring in somebody that I know who I think can contribute."

Maor is expected to make his first appearance at Sunday's home opener against the Kings at Spark Arena.
