Kiwi ski prodigy Alice Robinson reflects on World Cup heroics

Kiwi Slalom world champion Alice Robinson has touched down back on home soil, after an historic giant slalom victory in Austria on Sunday.

The 17-year-old became the first slalom specialist to win an event in 22 years, but isn't letting her achievements get in the way of unfinished business back home.

Robinson became the first Kiwi to win a World Cup giant slalom, edging reigning Olympic champion Mikaela Shiffrin by less than a second.

"It's really special and a really cool place to do it," said Robinson. "It means a lot to beat Mikayla, because she's been so dominant and it makes me really excited for the season coming up."

The season is sure to earn plenty of new stamps in her passport, as she travels across the globe on a monthly basis on the gruelling World Cup circuit.

"It's a big commitment, because there's one pretty much every month - sometimes three - so I've got to be on the road for six months."

But before she can hit the road and the slopes full time, Robinson must first hit the books - she's still finishing her final year at Wakatipu High School.

With age, confidence and now belief on her side, Alice Robinson's poised to continue standing atop of podiums for some.
