Sonny BIll Williams has confirmed he hopes to return to the boxing ring in 2020 for a bout against Paul Gallen or Barry Hall.
On Friday, Gallen and Hall will square off at Melbourne's Margaret Court Arena in a six-round battle.
Gallen has had his sights on the former All Blacks midfielder, since first calling him out in 2015. The pair reportedly agreed to terms in 2017, but the bout never eventuated.
If former Cronulla Sharks and NSW league captain Gallen can beat the former Sydney Swans AFL star, he'll get his wish, along with a massive payday, reportedly about $2m.
Speaking at his first Toronto Wolfpack appearance in London, Williams confirmed his two-year contract, worth a reported NZ$5m per season, had a clause that enables him to fight after the 2020 Super League season.
"I've had that [boxing] clause throughout my contracts," he said. "Whether it will be Paul Gallen or Barry Hall, time will tell.
"I'm pretty interested in that fight. There has been a lot of talk from both camps - I am not sure who'll win.
"Barry has been out of the ring since he was 18 and is 42 now. Gal has been fighting consistently for the last few years and that may give him the advantage."
Williams hasn't fought in the ring professionally since 2015, when he held the NZ heavyweight title, but last year, he had an exhibition bout against Australian reality TV personality Stu Laundy in Sydney to raise money for homeless charities.
Both Williams (7-0) and Gallen (9-0) have unbeaten boxing records.
