A new-look New Zealand women's pursuit team has won gold on day one of the latest track cycling World Cup event in Hong Kong.
The New Zealand quartet of Ally Wollaston, Nicole Shields, Emily Shearman and Michaela Drummond pipped Belgium in the final, after trailing for most of the race.
New Zealand crossed the line in 4m 19.653s, 0.8s ahead of the Belgians.
Their male counterparts could not match that achievement, settling for silver in the men's team pursuit, after being beaten by Germany by 0.7s in the gold medal ride.
The team of Tom Sexton, Dylan Kennett, Nick Kergozou and Corbin Strong, coming in for Campbell Stewart for the final, clocked an impressive 3m 52.655s, leading to the 3500m mark until the Germans powered home to snatch victory.
Elsewhere, Ethan Mitchell, Sam Webster and Eddie Dawkins have lost the bronze medal ride to France in the men's team sprint, while Olivia Podmore and Ellesse Andrews were unable to qualify for the first round of the women's event.
The action continues overnight with Stewart sporting the rainbow jersey in the men's omnium, Drummond in the scratch race, Andrews and Natasha Hansen in the individual sprint, and Callum Saunders in the keirin.
Following the conclusion of the World Cup event in Hong Kong, the series moves to Cambridge for a three-day event from December 6-8.
