Rain delay

55th over - Welcome back ..... Jofra Archer will resume - he has 0/31 from 13 overs. The rain is coming very shortly .... and it's here and the players bolt off after two balls.

53rd over - Maiden from Broad,

52nd over - Short and wide and Latham late cuts for four ... he's 96 now.

51st over - Nicholls drives through the covers for a well timed four .... hell of a shot that.

50th over - Poor from Woakes as he loses his line down legside and Latham has four to fine leg.

49th over - Stuart Broad returns - 1/29 from 12 overs. Maided from Broad to Nicholls.

48th over - WICKET: Taylor has his 50 with a leg glance for four from 99 balls with eight fours. He's gone next ball! He cuts to close to his body and edges to Root at slip.
Ross Taylor c Root b Woakes 53 (100) 8x4's FOW 155

47th over - Stokes will continue despite the limp. Latham repeats the dose from the previous over through mid-wicket ... more well timed than the previous one.

46th over - Woakes is back - 1/24 from 10 overs. Full and swinging from Woakes, strikes Latham on the pads but looks to be a bit leggy .... umpire says no but Root wants to see a review. Yep - ball pitched just outside leg stump. Latham flicks through mid-wicket for four. Into the 80s.

45th over - Ben Stokes will bowl for the first time today. Latham gets a couple to square-leg ... great stop on the rope by Archer to prevent four. Over-pitched from Stokes and Latham has four to wide mid-on ... 100 partnership for these two. Stokes has hurt is knee .... that might be his only over today.

44th over - Taylor drives through the covers for four - great shot that.

43rd over - Two singles from the Archer over.

42nd over - Two singles from the over.

Drinks

41st over - Just a Tom Latham single from the over.

40th over - Maiden from Curran to Taylor.

39th over - Right in the slot from Archer and Latham flicks through mid-wicket along the carpet for four. Slightly shorter from Archer and it lifts on Latham who defends away from his body ... ball takes the edge and flies to Stokes at third slip but it's through his hands. Chance lost and Archer remains wicketless for the series.

38th over - Sam Curran replaces Woakes - 0/22 from 5. Latham drives down the ground for a well-run three. Over-pitched from Curran and Taylor on the drive through a wide point region for four .... lovely square drive that.

37th over - Jofra Archer is back - 0/12 from 8. Short from Archer and Taylor cuts to the point boundary for four. Taylor repeats next ball and has a second boundary in the over.

36th over - Over-pitched from Woakes and Latham on the front foot and drives through wide mid-on for four.

35th over - Taylor looks to work a straight one on the legside but he's struck on the pads in front and Broad celebrates before umpire Wilson raises the finger. Taylor takes his time and eventually reviews and there is a very feint edge that will save him. No hotspot but there is a break in the flatline. Third umpire has no choice but to change the decision. Not convinced but, the tech suggests not out.

34th over - A Ross Taylor single from the over.

33rd over - Maiden from Woakes to Tom Latham.

32nd over - Just a Tom Latham single from the over.

30th over - Woakes will continue - 1/16 from 6 overs. Two singles from the Woakes over.

29th over - Stuart Broad will open up the session - 1/25 from 8 overs. A  maiden to start from Broad to Taylor.

Opener Latham brought up is half-century to cap off the session.

28th over - Chris Woakes back into the attack, and on the first ball, he hits Tom Latham on the pad, and he appeals for a wicket. Kumar Dharmasena raises the finger, and Ross Taylor tells Latham to appeal, so he does. Turns out to be the right call as it was pitching outside leg.

Latham ends the over with a double to bring up is fifty from 87 balls. Great way to end the first session.

27th over - Ross Taylor ends the over with a four. So Tom Latham will be on strike to start the next over to try claim his 50.

26th over - Another single to Ross Taylor from the final ball of the over.

Kia ora, good morning and welcome to Newshub's live coverage of the second cricket test between the Blackcaps and England at Seddon Park in Hamilton.

The Blackcaps head into the five-dayer full of confidence after beating England by an innings and 65 runs in the first test in Mt Maunganui.

New Zealand have won five and drawn one of their last six tests at Seddon Park, while Ross Taylor has made five of his 18 test hundreds at Hamilton, and is 92 runs away from scoring 1000 at the venue.

Play will start at 11am.

Of course, this particular match-up has taken on greater significance this year - no so much in the test format - after the pulsating climax at the Cricket World Cup, where England pipped New Zealand on a countback of boundaries in the final.

Then, three weeks ago, the T20 series decided at Eden Park also went into extra time, with the tourists again prevailing in a 'super over'.

In the longer format, New Zealand sit poised for their 100th test victory some time this summer, currently sitting on 99.
