Sevens: Australia beat New Zealand to take out Oceania invitational women's title

Australia's women have won the Oceania Invitational title after beating New Zealand 12-0 in the final.

It took until the fifth minute for either team to score, Australia opened the scoring through Faith Nathan after she let loose down the left-wing in the wet, windy Fijian conditions.

Australia took a 7-0 lead into the half time break as both sides struggled with handling errors as the weather played its part in the clash.

Cassie Staples came up huge for the Australians, she won a crucial turnover at the breakdown before Sariah Paki ran the length of the field for their second try.

Any hint of a comeback from New Zealand was quashed as they came up with more handling errors in the second half.

The game got worse for the Kiwis as superstar Portia Woodman pulled up midway through the second half with an injury.

The New Zealand mens side finished seventh after beating the Solomon Islands 37-7.
