Opening batsman Jeet Raval is the man under the most pressure in the Blackcaps squad, heading into the second test against Australia in Melbourne.
The 31-year old was dismissed for one in both innings at Perth, leaving him with an average of just seven from his last nine innings.
On Monday, NZ coach Gary Stead gave the strongest indication yet that Raval's time could be up.
"We're trying to help Jeet as much as we can and get him in a good frame of mind as well," said Stead. "But every batsman wants to score more runs.
"We have options we can look at, but we also want to make sure its the right timing, if we do make change."
Change is inevitable. Injured Lockie Ferguson will return home on Tuesday, while Trent Boult has overcome his side strain and is now fit for Melbourne.
But Raval isn't alone in the firing line.
After 41 wicketless overs in Perth, Mitchell Santner's spot as the team's front-line spinner is also up in the air.
"We'll evaluate where we're at and work out whether it's the right option heading into Melbourne," said Stead. "But we've also got some cover in the squad with Todd Astle."
The Blackcaps play a two-day match against a Victoria XI, starting Friday, which will provide one last chance for those under pressure to perform.
