Kiwi cycling prodigy Campbell Stewart blitzed the field to claim the omnium gold at the track cycling World Cup in Cambridge on Saturday night.
The 21-year-old shone in a tough field that included nine-time world champion Australian Cameron Meyer and German star Roger Kluge.
The Manawatu product finished fifth in the scratch race and the tempo, then won the elimination and points races to round out a dominant display and move to the top of the world rankings.
"It was just an awesome kind of day," Stewart said, after the points race. "I started off consistent and managed to hold off a fair few attacks from the top riders, chased them down, eventually got the sprints and got there in the end."
Stewart's victory was the standout on a strong night for the local riders, as Holly Edmonston took the honours in the scratch race, and the pairing of Michael Drummond and Jesse Hodges clinched bronze in the madison.
"It feels amazing to be up here in front of a home crowd," Edmondston said. "I can't believe it.
"I always have a little bit of bad luck in the scratch race, with placing myself in the bunch, but I listened to my coach Ross last night and I really trusted him.
"I trusted myself, took it on board and went for it - committed - and took it."
