EPL: Manchester City come-from-behind to beat Leicester

Manchester City came from behind to end Leicester's nine-game unbeaten run in the English Premier League with a 3-1 victory at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday (NZ time).

Pep Guardiola's side stay third despite this impressive victory, a point behind the Foxes and 11 behind Liverpool - who now have a game in hand.

Leicester scored first when  Jamie Vardy opened the scoring - his 16th goal of the season - midway through the first half.

But City produced the response of champions as former Leicester forward Riyad Mahrez, Ilkay Gundogan and  Gabriel Jesus all scored for Manchester.

Meanwhile, Sheffield United and Wolverhampton Wanderers have continued their surprising pursuits of the English Premier League top four with away wins.

Promoted United won 1-0 at Brighton to climb up to fifth and Wolves are sixth after their comeback 2-1 victory at Norwich.

Ollie McBurnie's first-half goal was the difference as Sheffield United won their third straight game and remained unbeaten away in the league.

"We know they are a good team and it was going to be a hard task but the gaffer put a game plan out and we came away with three points," McBurnie said.

"We have been really good away from home, so the boys want to keep that going."

Wolves fell behind at Norwich through Todd Cantwell's early goal before Romain Saiss' pulled them level on the hour.

Raul Jimenez then won it in the 81st minute off the rebound of Matt Doherty's saved shot.

"We had a very poor first half," Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo said.

"I think we were better in the second half because we learned from our mistakes.

"It is part of us, we are relentless and go to the end."

Fourth-placed Chelsea hold the final Champions League qualifying spot followed by Sheffield, Wolves, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United.

Everton and Arsenal did little to impress their new bosses with a dreary goalless draw.

Everton announced Carlo Ancelotti as their new coach, a day after Arsenal hired Mikel Arteta, and both were in attendance at Goodison Park ahead of taking charge.

Arsenal had the only two shots on target as misplaced passes far outnumbered scoring chances in a match devoid of quality.

Danny Ings scored twice as Southampton climbed out of the relegation places with a convincing 3-1 win at Aston Villa, who replace them in the drop zone.

"Massive win, we knew how important this game was," Ings said.

"Big opportunity to put in a performance and we did.

"We're working on things every day, but I think today is a huge step in progressing forward."

Newcastle United are ninth after beating Crystal Palace 1-0 on Miguel Almiron's first goal for the club with Burnley right behind them in 10th after Jay Rodriguez's late header gave them a 1-0 win at Bournemouth.
