Football: Liverpool youngsters hammered by Aston Villa in League Cup quarter-final

Aston Villa are through to the Carabao Cup semi-finals after dishing out a lesson to Liverpool's young guns in a 5-0 thrashing at Villa Park.

With manager Juergen Klopp away with his senior players in Qatar for the Club World Cup, the Reds fielded their youngest team in their history with an average age of 19.4.

Villa took full advantage, taking the lead in the 14th minute when Conor Hourihane's whipped free-kick wide on the right eluded everybody, including Reds keeper Caoimhin Kelleher, and nestled in the bottom-left corner.

Villa doubled their lead shortly afterwards when a right-wing cross from Ahmed Elmohamady came off the boot of Liverpool defender Morgan Boyes and looped over the goalkeeper.

Jonathan Kodjia added the third in the 37th minute and Villa's fourth shortly before the break when he turned in a low cross from Elmohamady from close range.

Wesley Moraes rounded off the scoring in time added on when he beat Kelleher at the far post.

Manchester United are at home to Colchester, Oxford host Manchester City while Leicester travel to Goodison Park to meet Everton in the other quarter-final matchups.
