Kiwi 49er duo Peter Burling and Blair Tuke have claimed gold at the sailing world championships in Auckland.
A slip in the gold-medal race from Burling made for a nail-biting finish, but the Olympic champions were able to recover and claim the championship by four points, finishing fourth in the final gold-medal race.
Heading into the final day, the Kiwi pair sat at the top of the leaderboard, 12 points ahead of German pair Erik Heil and Thomas Ploessel.
But Burling and Tuke ran into trouble in the first race of the day, with gear failure relegating them to last place and 25 points.
Burling's steering device - the tiller extension - broke and they capsized, but the result meant that last place could be their discard, which brought back the 11th place finish they got on the opening day.
They hit back with a third place in the second race of the day, giving them an eight point buffer heading into the medal race, which saw double points up for grabs.
"It was unreal conditions, we are just super stoked to come back like we did," Tuke said. "To to it on Auckland harbour, in front of all our friends and family, is pretty special."
Fellow Kiwis Logan Dunning-Beck and Oscar Gunn finished second in the gold-medal race to claim an overall position of fifth, 57 points behind first place.
In the women's 49erFX, Kiwis Alex Maloney and Molly Meech had a strong final day, claiming two thirds in the two final races.
In the medal race, they managed to avoid all the early carnage to finish seventh in the race and sixth overall.
"We've got some key learnings ahead of the worlds in February," Meech said. "Our starts let us down this week - it's something that we have been imroving on, but we need to push it a little bit there."
Dutch pair Annemiek Bekkering and Annette Duetz claimed gold, beating Brazilians Martine Soffiatti Grael and Kahena, with Danish duo Ida Marie Baad Nielsen and Marie Thusgaard Olsen third.
