Live updates: ASB Classic, women's day three from Auckland

9:34pm - Anisimova secures a 6-2 6-4 win to clinch a place in the quarter finals to close out day three.

8:53pm - Anisimova bolts to a 6-2 win in the opening set.

8:23pm - Anisimova and Kasatkina are underway, the American serving first.

7:15pm - Third seed Amanda Anisimova will close out the day's play against Daria Kasatkina at 8:15pm.

6:29pm - The Europeans respond emphatically to march to a 4-6 6-1 10-8 win over Routliffe and Kiick.

6:17pm - Local hope Routliffe and her American partner Allie Kiick clinch the first set 6-4 over Garcia and Goerges. 

5:50pm - The doubles match-up between Caroline Garcia and Julia Goerges and Allie Kiick and NZ's Erin Routliffe is underway, the latter out to an early 3-1 advantage.

5:40pm - Gauff and McNally waltz to a 6-3 6-2 win over Moore and Rodionova, then mark the occasion with their trademark handshake. 

5:16pm - Gauff and McNally score a break early in the second set to go up 2-0.

5:07pm - The Americans wrap up the first set 6-3.

4:55pm - Gauff and McNally earn the service break to go up 4-2 in the first, then cash in to move to 5-2.

4:44pm - Some entertaining tennis being produced by these two duos so far, much to the delight of the Stanley St faithful.

The Americans break back to tie things up at 2-2 in the opening set.

4:30pm - Teen sensation Coco Gauff is out on court warming up with partner Catherine McNally for their doubles clash with Australian duo Jessica Moore and Arina Radionava.

4:10pm - There it is! Eugenie Bouchard books her spot in the quarter finals with an impressive 6-4 6-4 win over Carolina Garcia.

4:00pm - Garcia saves a match point to stave off defeat. Bouchard will now serve for the win, up 5-4.

3:45pm - Bouchard breaks again to go ahead 3-2. She's looking extra focused out there today. She capitalises to go up 4-2 and edge towards closing out the match.

3:37pm - Breaks both ways early in the second set, which is locked at 2-2.

3:20pm - The Canadian fan fave wraps up the first set against Garcia 6-4.

3:05pm - Bouchard earns the match's first service break to take a 3-4 lead in the opening set.

2:40pm - Eugenie Bouchard and Caroline Garcia are now warming up on the main court, with their tie set to start momentarily.

2:24pm - Frenchwoman Alize Cornet has upset second-seeded Croatian Petra Martic to advance to the singles quarter-finals, losing the first set, but rallying to take out the match 3-6 6-4 6-4.

Cornet produced three aces to close out the contest and she will now face American Jessica Pegula in the final eight. 

At 57, Cornet is the higher ranked of the pair and has won their only previous meeting at last year's US Open.

Martic becomes the second seed eliminated from this year's ASB Classic, after sixth-seeded Swede Rebecca Peterson departed on Monday.

Next up on Centrecourt, Canadian Eugenie Bouchard takes on eighth-seeded Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia.

Meanwhile, on the outside court, Belgians Flipkens and Van Uytvanck have taken the first tiebreak set over Adamczak/Srebotnik in doubles play.

1:41pm - Cornet squares up the match against Martic, serving out to take the second set 6-4, and then breaks the second seed to start the third.

1:13pm - On the outside court, Jessica Pegula has beaten Tamara Zidansek 6-2 6-3 to progress to the ASB Classic singles quarter-finals, needing just a tick over the hour to prevail.

Ranked 82nd in the world, the American will now meet the winner of Martic v Cornet, where Cornet is up a break in the second set, after losing the first.

Next up on the Grandstand court, Adamczak/Srebotnik take on Belgians Flipkens/Van Uytvanck in doubles.

12:55pm - Martic has broken Cornet again to claim that first set, 6-3.

12:45pm - American Jessica Pegula has taken half an hour to snatch the first set from Tamara Zidansek 6-2 on the Grandstand court and games have gone to service early in the second.

On Centrecourt, Petra Martic is a break up and one game away from taking the opening set against Alize Cornet.

11:53am - Before play starts for Wednesday, ASB Classic organisers have announced they are auctioning courtside seats and corporate boxes, with the proceeds donated towards bushfire relief in Australia.

Kia ora, good morning and welcome to Newshub's live coverage of day three at the ASB Classic women's tournament from Auckland.

The top seeds have all survived their opening matches at the Auckland Tennis Centre, with Serena Williams, Julia Goerges and Caroline Wozniacki all winning in straight sets on Centrecourt yesterday.

Williams had too much power for Italian qualifier Camila Giorgi, Goerges had to battle against Belgian qualifier Greet Minnen, and Wozniacki outclassed Kiwi hopeful Paige Hourigan.

Almost unnoticed, second seed Petra Martic and third-ranked Amanda Anisimova also progressed, and they'll play second round matches on Centrecourt today.

Feature match this evening will be Williams/Wozniacki taking on top-seeded doubles combo Dolehide/Larsson.

Williams eases into second round at ASB Classic

American great Serena Williams has stamped her mark early at the ASB Classic, with a comprehensive 6-3 6-2 win over Camila Giorgi in her first-round match on Tuesday.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion needed just over an hour to overcome the Italian and advance to the round of 16 in Auckland.

After a relatively tentative start, Williams found her rhythm towards the end of the first set and winners began to flow against the game Giorgi.

"I've always had really tough matches against Camila," Williams said in her post-match interview. 

"It's really good to know I still have some power left in my arms and my legs." 

Defending champion Julia Goerges had to fight in her opening tie against Belgian qualifier Greet Minnen, battling back to claim the second set in a tie break to emerge a 6-1 7-6 winner.

Meanwhile, there was no fairytale for 20-year-old Kiwi wildcard entry Paige Mary Hourigan, who was outclasssed by Caroline Wozniacki 6-1 6-0.

In other action on day two, third seed Amanda Anisimova made light work of Kateryna Kozlova, coasting to a 6-3 6-4 win.

Croatia's Petra Martic prevailed 7-5 4-6 4-6 in a near three-hour tussle against American Usue Arconada, while Frenchwoman Alize Cornet earned a hard-fought 4-6 7-5 6-3 victory over Belgian Ysaline Bonaventure.
