NZ freeskier Nico Porteous has claimed fourth in the Superpipe at the X Games in Aspen.
The 18-year-old's final run included a trick he'd never landed in competition - a double cork 1620 - that saw him join a small list of male skiers to nail the jump.
But despite thrilling the crowd, the manoeuvre wasn't enough to secure a medal, with the Kiwi finishing fourth.
Porteous struggled in his first two runs, aborting one and crashing out of the other, leaving him in seventh spot.
But a stellar final run pushed him up the leaderboard, with Porteous taking an all-or-nothing approach.
Aspen native Alex Ferriera successfully defended the gold medal, overtaking fellow American Aaron Blunck in his final run, with X games rookie Brendan McKay finished in third place.
