For a century, the New Zealand Open field has been exclusively for men, but Pernilla Lindberg is about to change that.
A Major winner two years ago, the 33-year-old Swede comes here with a world ranking of 176 and knows this week won't be easy.
"I'm very realistic with expectations," Lindberg told Newshub. "It's going to be tough competing against the guys."
She shies away from calling it a breakthrough moment for the sport here and while some may dismiss her inclusion as a 'stunt', tournament boss John Hart has a very different take.
"We are always looking for innovation and to be creative," Hart said. "We want this tournament to be fun and Pernilla just fits it."
