The Project co-host Mark Richardson has blasted UFC as "prison violence".
His comments came after this year's Halberg Awards included UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya as a nominee for Sportsman of the Year, with coach Eugene Bareman nominated for Coach of the Year.
But as a Halberg judge, Richardson isn't keen on the sport.
"I believe UFC to be prison violence," he said. "I don't like it at all."
He did admit that the sport had become very popular, saying that's why he placed it "very high up".
"It's had amazing growth, they're amazing athletes and I've got to take it seriously."
