Injury-ravaged NZ Warriors have secured their first loan player, with Sydney Roosters prop Poasa Faamausili seemingly set to join the team on a month-long loan.
According to Australian reports, Auckland-born Faamausili will join the Warriors on Monday and spend four weeks with the team, before returning to play for the Tri-colours in round nine.
Faamausili made his NRL debut in 2018 and has played 14 times for the Roosters, scoring one try. He was named on an extended bench for the Roosters' game against South Sydney Rabbitohs on Friday.
The 24-year-old is related to former Penrith Panthers duo Frank and Tony Puletua, the latter playing 22 tests for the Kiwis.
Last week, the NRL approved a short-term dispensation for the Warriors to take on loan players from rival clubs, due to an injury crisis that sees them with only 26 fit players on the eve of the season relaunch.
Since relocating to Australia, the Warriors have lost middle forwards Leeson Ah Mau and Jazz Tevaga, which came on top of season-ending surgeries for props Bunty Afoa and Jackson Frei.
Last week, the Warriors signed Jack Murchie from the Canberra Raiders to help ease the pressure on their depleted roster.
Ex-Warrior and current Wests Tigers prop Russell Packer is one of many players who have been linked with a short-term move to Stephen Kearney's squad since loan deals were approved.
The Warriors will chase their first win of 2020 when they face the St George Illawarra Dragons on Saturday.
They lost to the Newcastle Knights and the Canberra Raiders, before the COVID-19 enforced season suspension in March.
