The International Olympic Committee allows the Soviet Union to compete at the upcoming 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki, Finland.
The Communist stronghold hadn't competed at an Olympics since its establishment in 1922 and finished second on the medal table with 71 (22 gold), behind the United States.
1967
Kiwi Denny Hulme secures his first Formula One win with victory at the Monaco Grand Prix.
Hulme's win was overshadowed by the death of Italian Lorenzo Bandini three days later, after sustaining serious burns in a crash, while in second place.
Hulme would go on to win the 1967 F1 world championship
2005
Cronulla Sharks beat the NZ Warriors 28-24 in the first NRL game in Perth since 1999.
Cronulla five-eighth Adam Dykes scored the game-winning try in the 79th minute.
On the same day, Canberra Raiders pulled off a remarkable comeback against the Panthers in Penrith, winning 26-18 after trailing 18-0.
2007
Team New Zealand beat Luna Rossa Challenge by 36 seconds in a round-robin race at the Louis Vuitton Cup in Valencia.
The America's Cup challenger series consisted of two round robins, two semi-finals and a final.
New Zealand, skippered by Dean Barker, would go on to win the Louis Vuitton Cup and challenge Alinghi for the 'Auld Mug', but lost the series 5-2.
Ten years later, New Zealand would regain the Cup, with the next staging of the event due to take place next year.
2016
Leicester City get their hands on the English Premier League trophy, after a 3-1 victory over Everton at the King Power Stadium.
The Foxes were confirmed as champions five days earlier, after Chelsea and Tottenham played out a 2-2 draw.
Leicester overcame 5000-1 odds to win the Premier League for the first time, finishing 10 points clear of second-placed Arsenal.
2018
Welshman Mark Williams keeps his word and attends his world snooker championship title-winning press conference in the nude.
Williams made the promise before the tournament and surprised himself, as he beat Scotland's John Higgins 18-16 to win his third title - 15 years after his second.
He also became the tournament's oldest winner for 40 years.

Nick Kyrgios smashes racket, serves underarm in first round Madrid Open loss
Another episode in the strange and controversial career of Australia's Nick Kyrgios unfolded in the Madrid Open as he slipped to a 7-6, 6-4 first-round defeat against Germany's Jan-Lennard Struff.
Kyrgios was up to his usual tricks as he attempted numerous underarm serves and eventually smashed one of his rackets in the opening set.
The 24-year-old also ignored the umpire and his opponent at the coin toss when he bent down to tie his laces.
