Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta believes  the way his side lost their Premier League game at Brighton is "unacceptable".

Nicolas Pepe's delightful free-kick looked like giving Arsenal the points, but Lewis Dunk equalised for the hosts, before Neal Maupay scored the winner in stoppage time on Sunday (NZ time).

Defeat leaves Arsenal in ninth spot in the table with 40 points from 30 games, six behind fifth-placed Manchester United.

"I am very frustrated," Arteta says. "It is unacceptable the way we lost the game.

"We like competing and I know we have a young squad, but still we threw the game away. We had to put it to bed earlier."

Before the Premier League was suspended because of the coronavirus pandemic, Arsenal were on a three-game winning run that had revived their hopes of qualifying for Europe.

But after losing to Manchester City on Thursday and now Brighton, that looks a tough task.

"We need to try to lift the players," Arteta says. "There's a lot of things that they've done really well, but we don't compete.

"At this level, you can't give the goals that we give away. It's impossible.

"I know that we are a very, very young team, but in the Premier League, if you make two mistakes like this, you lost two goals. We can't accept that."

Earlier, defender Craig Dawson grabbed a stoppage-time equaliser, as Watford drew 1-1 with Leicester City to earn a vital point in their battle for Premier League survival.

England defender Ben Chilwell put third-placed Leicester ahead in the 90th minute with a thunderous shot, before Dawson's acrobatic overhead finish secured a draw for Watford, who moved provisionally a point clear of the relegation zone.

Watford moved to 16th place in the table with 28 points, while Leicester remained third - six points clear of fourth-placed Chelsea.

Elsewhere, Crystal Palace secured a 2-0 win over Bournemouth, thanks to first-half goals by Luka Milivojevic and Jordan Ayew.

Milivojevic curled home a stunning free kick after 12 minutes and Ayew's cool finish 10 minutes later left relegation-haunted Bournemouth facing an uphill task.

Wolverhampton Wanderers also claimed a 2-0 win, beating West Ham United - a significant result at both ends of the Premier League table.

Adama Traore came off the bench to inspire Wolves to victory, playing a role in both goals.

Traore's surging run and sublime cross was perfect for Raul Jimenez to head powerfully home in the 73rd minute.

Traore was then involved again in the move that ended with fellow substitute Pedro Neto firing home a sensational left-footed volley to seal the win that lifted Wolves into sixth place, level on 46 points with fifth-placed Manchester United.
