Basketball star JR. Smith has been filmed assaulting a man who allegedly smashed his car window during the riots in Los Angeles.
The former Cleveland Cavaliers' guard can be seen kicking and punching the man in a video obtained by TMZ.
Protests have broken out nationwide in the United States in the wake of George Floyd's death last week at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer.
Smith, who was eventually held back by a group of friends, uploaded a video explaining the reasoning for his brutal attack and stressed it had nothing to do with race.
"One of these motherfu***ing white boys didn’t know where he was going and broke my f***ing window in my truck," he says.
"Broke my s**t. This is a residential area, no stores over here non [sic] of that s**t.
"I chased him down and whooped his ass. This ain’t no hate crime, I ain’t got no problem with nobody who ain’t got no problem with me.
"This is a problem with the system. He didn’t know whose window he broke and he got his ass whooped."
The 34-year-old is currently without a team, having last played for the Cavaliers in the 2018/19 season.
Smith won his one and only NBA title with LeBron James and Cleveland in 2016.
