Scott Dixon has started the revamped IndyCar season in imperious form, dominating the pack at the opening event in Texas.
The Kiwi flyer led 157 of 200 laps, after qualifying second earlier on Sunday.
A potential 1-2 finish for Chip Ganassi Racing was dashed 12 laps from the finish, when teammate Felix Rosenqvist crashed out, after storming through the field to second place from 10th on the grid.
The Swedish driver threatened to ruin Dixon's near-perfect day, after shortening his teammate's lead from 13 seconds to less than a second.
The Genesys 300 is the first of a shortened 14-race season that will see the Indianapolis 500 raced in August and culminate in St Petersburg on October 26.
"Such strange times right now," Dixon said afterwards. "This result was such a team effort.
"We had a few problems at the start, but we recovered and this is an awesome result.
"The car was so fast and every situation I got in, I was able to go for it - the car was great."
The New Zealander drew level with AJ Foyt's remarkable record sequence of winning a race for 18 successive IndyCar seasons.
Behind the five-time IndyCar series winner, Frenchman Simon Pagenaud was second, and reigning champion and pole sitter Josef Newgarden came home third.
