Brisbane Broncos coach Anthony Seibold is focusing on the positives, after his side blew a commanding lead to lose 20-18 to Manly Sea Eagles at Central Coast Stadium.
In a classic game of two halves, the Broncos raced out to a 18-0 lead after 30 minutes, before the Sea Eagles fought back to secure their third win of the season.
Since the NRL restart last month, the Broncos have failed to win a match, but Seibold is pleased to see more fight from his side, after their record 59-0 defeat to the Sydney Roosters last week.
"We were disappointed not to get the result on the scoreboard, but there was plenty of application," he says. "We didn't see any field position or footy in the second half.
"There's a bit of a lesson we can take away from that… we had [the momentum] early and they had it in the second half. It was a better performance from us."
The Broncos were their own worst enemies at times, as they blew a golden opportunity to extend their lead just before the break, when Corey Oates was pinged for obstruction.
Then, late in the second half with the scores locked at 18-18, Patrick Carrigan was penalised for a late strip on Jake Trbojevic.
The strip was one-on-one, but came after Ashley Klein had called 'held'. The Broncos couldn't challenge the call, as they'd used their only challenge minutes earlier.
Reuben Garrick then kicked what would be the game-winning penalty as a result.
"It was a really tough call, it was a one-on-one strip," Seibold adds.
"If he called held, what normally happens is the guy gets to play the ball again. To lose a game like that is really disappointing - I just didn't think it was a penalty."
More than 150 fans were able to attend the match from the corporate boxes - the first NRL game since round one where spectators were allowed inside the stadium.
Kotoni Staggs, Xavier Coates and Darius Boyd all scored for the Broncos in the first half, before Tevita Funa crossed for the Sea Eagles, with Brisbane holding a 18-4 lead at the break.
The Sea Eagles continued where they left off, when Daly Cherry-Evans and Moses Suli crossed to make it a two-point game.
Two Garrick penalties then saw the Sea Eagles take the lead to secure victory.
The win came at a cost for the Sea Eagles, with prop Martin Taupau set to miss at least two weeks with a dislocated thumb.
