Gold Coast Titans have snapped a 364-day losing streak with a stunning last-gasp 28-23 win over the Wests Tigers in Brisbane.
The Titans last tasted victory on June 9 last year, when they defeated Brisbane Broncos, ending their 14-game losing streak, when Phillip Sami scored a 78th-minute try on Sunday.
Fullback Sami pounced on a grubber kick from Brian Kelly to earn new coach Justin Holbrook his first win as a NRL coach.
"To get off the mark was great and in that fashion, even better," Holbrook says.
"I have spent a lot of time giving the players self-belief... and now that we've won, I think they showed that if you keep hanging in there and working hard you can get the result you need."
"It is only the start. I'm getting a bit excited... but we've got to keep cracking on."
The Titans quickly found themselves behind, when fullback Adam Doueihi and wing David Nofoaluma scored for Wests inside the opening 15 minutes.
But the Titans didn't take long to respond, with Kevin Proctor and Anthony Don both scoring to level the match 12-12 at the break.
The Tigers then jumped to a 22-12 lead, with Joseph Leilua and Nofoaluma crossing the line, but Gold Coast clawed their way back again, with Keegan Hipgrave scoring his first career try and Kelly also dotting down to set up a thrilling finish.
Benji Marshall slotted a field goal and the Tigers looked set for victory, until Sami pounced to score the game-winning try.
Tigers coach Michael Maguire says his side's performance was "unacceptable".
"I am sick and tired of the ups and downs of our performances - we need to change that. It's unacceptable, that performance."
The win leaves the Canterbury Bulldogs and St George Illawarra Dragons as the only two teams without a win this season, but one may break that duck when they face each other on Monday night.
