NRL 2020: Stephen Kearney linked to 'high-profile' assistant role at the Brisbane Broncos

Dumped NZ Warriors coach Stephen Kearney is set to rebound quickly with a return to the Brisbane Broncos on the cards.

Kearney returned home to Brisbane to be with his family following his shock sacking from the club he had mentored since 2017.

Under pressure Broncos coach Anthony Seibold has told the Daily Telegraph he would love to have Kearney on his coaching staff, a club where the former Kiwi captain served as an assistant for five years.

"I know Stephen is back in town [Brisbane]," Seibold said.

"He has worked for the club previously, and he’s got a lot of experience.

"He did a tremendous job when he was here last time.

"He'd be a person I'd reach out for if there is a position available."

Despite five straight losses, Seibold has assurance from the Broncos board that his job is safe, although they have urged the young coach to secure a high-profile assistant.

Kearney fits the bill perfectly, although Queensland State of Origin coach Kevin Walters has also been linked to the role.
