One of the most respected voices in World Rugby is urging officials not to waste the opportunity to fix some of the underlying issues confronting the international game.
Warren Gatland's coached extensively in both hemispheres and he's adamant the lack of a global calendar remains a huge obstacle to growth.
World Rugby's due to meet on June 15 to discuss improvement and Gatland says now more than ever, that they must act.
"If there's any opportunity or chance to do it then it's now," Gatland says. "If they can't sort it out now, then I don't think it's ever gonna happen."
At their top of the agenda is a global calendar. Both Sir Bill Beamont and Agustin Pichot campaigned on it at the World Rugby elections, and Beaumont now has possibly his best, and last, chance to implement it.
"Hopefully the powers that be can sit down and we can nut out - and there's always gotta be compromise - potentially what can be the best for a global season" Gatland adds.
That season would see the All Blacks July test window move to later in the year- likely October - before a return tour to the Northern Hemisphere shortly thereafter.
Another option is to align the Six Nations and Rugby Championship in the same window, although Newshub understands that's not one that New Zealand Rugby favours.
Gatland thinks both hemispheres must work together to ensure meaningful change and, regardless of how they get there, now is the time for it to happen.
"The one positive from a sporting aspect is that if there's any chance ever to start from a blank sheet of paper, then now is the only opportunity."
