The New Zealand round of the revamped Supercars calendar is in doubt, with a revised schedule in the works.
Supercars revealed a new-look season last month, which was to culminate in February at Bathurst's Mount Panorama circuit in a sprint race event.
Auckland's Pukekohe circuit was pencilled in for the penultimate round on January 9-10, but those dates are set for the scrapheap.
According to a Supercars statement, a new calendar will be announced next week because teams, drivers and broadcasters have found it difficult to negotiate contracts around the two dates set for 2021.
"These times are unprecedented for our sport, which is why we have to remain flexible with our calendar arrangements and if required, we will make significant changes," Supercars said.
"Supercars can confirm that since the release of the draft revised calendar in May, talks have been held with teams, state government authorities and broadcast partners about further alterations to the 2020 Virgin Australia Supercars Championship calendar.
"These talks are ongoing and the calendar remains subject to change.
"All options are being discussed including a series finale under lights at Sydney Motorsport Park in December."
A Supercars spokesperson told Newshub a New Zealand event is still a priority for the 2020 season if they can make it work around the other scheduled rounds.
They also confirmed to Newshub that the Bathurst 1000, set for October 11, is the only confirmed event at the stage.
If the plans to race into the new year are abandoned, a series finale under lights at Sydney Motorsport Park in December is an option being discussed.
The 2020 Supercars championship is scheduled to resume at Sydney Motorsport Park on June 27.
