NZ Breakers are set to announce the prized acquisition of Tall Blacks guard Tai Webster for their upcoming ANBL campaign.
Newshub understands Webster has signed a one-year deal with the Auckland-based side, a move that would elevate them into a group of leading championship contenders.
Webster would likely join brother Corey Webster in a potent starting backcourt for the team, after beginning with their academy system and graduating to a development player in 2013.
After a standout four-year tenure with University of Nebraska, Webster moved to Europe for a season with Germany's Frankfurt Skyliners, then to Turkey's Galatasaray, where he's spent the last two years.
The Aucklander has played more than 50 times for the Tall Blacks and was one of their best at last year's FIBA World Cup in China, ranking third in the team for scoring average (13.4 points) and second in assists (4.8).
The 25-year-old's addition would be a huge boost to the roster, which is still taking shape, after an exodus of off-contract players at the end of their last campaign.
Webster would be the sixth player confirmed, alongside his brother, Tom Abercrombie, Rob Loe, Jarrad Weeks and Finn Delaney, with its two import spots still to be filled.
The Next Stars slot occupied by NBA Draft prospect RJ Hampton is also available.
