Kiwi Scott Dixon's flying start to the IndyCar season has hit a speed bump, after finishing 12th in the second race of the Wisconsin doubleheader.
Less than 24 hours after securing his third win in as many races this season, Dixon struggled, as Chip Ganassi team teammate Felix Rosenqvist of Sweden secured his first IndyCar victory, overtaking Mexican Pato O'Ward on the penultimate lap.
Starting on the third row, Dixon was sixth with 15 laps remaining, when disaster struck, as his Honda car stalled twice in the pit-lane.
By the time he managed to get his car back on the track, he was down the order and out of contention.
Dixon was already trailing by some distance when he entered the pits, but the slip cost him a shot at a podium finish.
Regardless of the result, Dixon remains atop the standings, holding a 54-point lead over American Colton Herta.
On Sunday, Dixon became the first driver since 2006 to win the first three races of the season.
Dixon had three-race winning streaks in his career twice previously - Watkins Glen, Nashville and Mid-Ohio in 2007, and Pocono and a doubleheader sweep at Toronto in 2013.
This weekend marked the return of fans to IndyCar races, after the first two were run in a bubble to limit the spread of coronavirus.
Next weekend sees another doubleheader event, with two races at the Iowa Speedway.
