Veteran playmaker Blake Green is determined to prove NZ Warriors owner Mark Robinson wrong.
Green's three-year stay at the club appears to be ending, after Robinson revealed the 33-year-old was surplus to requirements beyond this season.
Green's answer to that was emphatic, as he led his side to a stunning comeback win over Brisbane Broncos on Saturday night, dominating the last quarter with his kicking game.
Speaking to NRL.com, Green admits he was shocked to hear he was an unwanted commodity.
The former Manly Sea Eagles and Melbourne Storm half is now focused on proving his credentials.
"It irritated me a little bit, but the club's made a decision and I can't do anything about that, so I'll just keep playing my role in the footy team and do as best I can," Green has told NRL.com.
"I know the club's potentially in a bit of a rebuilding stage, so maybe they made a decision that I'm not going to be a part of that.
"I'm really proud of what I've done since I came to the footy club.
"My first year here [2018] was the first time we made the finals in seven years, so that team's been. It's not the same footy team - we haven't got the same coach - it's been changing a lot.
"I gave everything I had to the club and I'll continue to do so. I get along really well with the playing group and there are some fantastic people there.
"It is what it is."
Robinson was sideline for Saturday night's win, sitting with suspended captain Roger Tuivasa-Sheck and other non-playing squad members.
Green's unsure if Robinson was impressed enough to change his mind, but the pair will talk in the coming days.
"I dare say that will probably happen tomorrow [Sunday] or the next day," says Green. "I didn't leave my room yesterday [Friday] to be honest.
"I had two points to get and a game to win for my footy team, so I put it to the side.
"I love footy and I still want to keep playing. Hopefully, I can be of some use to someone.
"We'll see how the next couple of days play out."
Interim coach Todd Payten was full of praise for his No.7, lauding Green for a game-winning performance in testing circumstances.
"I can’t commend him highly enough about his contribution to this club and the way he took the week on," Payten says. "I spoke to him more than once and he was upset.
"But the way he threw himself into the week, and the way he performed and dragged the team with him is just testament to him, his family and the way he goes about his business."
The Warriors will chase back-to-back wins for the first time in 2020 against Gold Coast Titans on Friday night.
