ANZ Premiership: Mainland Tactix book first-ever Grand Final spot with win over Central Pulse

A stunning 39-32 win over table-topping Central Pulse has earned Mainland Tactix a spot in the ANZ Premiership final

Twenty-four hours after toppling nearest rivals Northern Mystics, the Tactix win in Wellington has now a berth in the final beyond reach of the Aucklanders.

The Pulse were missing star shooter Ameliaranne Ekenasio and midcourt dynamo Maddy Gordon, and with their place in the final already guaranteed, they produced a flat performance.

Tactix shooting pair Ellie Bird and Te Paea Selby-Rickit were excellent, combining for 39 from 47 attempts and earning their side a 13-7 first-quarter lead that they would never give up.

The Pulse closed within five at the three-quarter mark, but a messy final spell put paid to any thoughts of a comeback and relegated the Mystics to the third-place playoff against the Northern Stars.

The August 23 match will be the first Grand Final appearance for the Tactix against the defending champion Pulse, who are expected to be back at full strength.
