Wellington Phoenix defender Liberato Cacae is reportedly completing his move to Belgian club Sint-Truidense VV (STVV) on a three-year contract.
Belgium news agency Het Laatste Nieuws claims STVV have completed a €1.2million (NZ$2.13m) transfer for the All Whites international, with the Belgian Pro League closing on Monday.
That would obliterate the previous highest transfer fee paid to the Phoenix, believed to be worth between $750,000-1m when Bayern Munich purchased Sarpreet Singh last year.
Phoenix officials have told Newshub nothing has been signed between the two clubs, but a deal could be confirmed in the coming days.
STVV is coached by former Melbourne Victory boss Kevin Muscat, while former Phoenix assistant Luciano Trani is part of the coaching staff.
This week, Cacace was named in the A-League's Team of the Season, alongside Ulises Dávila, while captain Steven Taylor was on the bench and Ufuk Talay was named Coach of the Season.
After the Phoenix were knocked out of the A-League playoffs, Talay said Cacace needed to spread his wings and move on.
"He's at a level now where he needs to be challenged somewhere else and that's overseas," he says.
"For me, he was a big player. He played a massive role with our club and now that the season's over for us, he'll be going to be a new challenge and I wish him all the best."
STVV are currently 10th in the Belgium Pro League standings with one win, a draw and a loss after three games.
Meanwhile, the Phoenix face a stern challenge to re-sign striker Gary Hooper, with several clubs chasing his services, including Indian Super League outfit Kerala Blasters.
A Kerala source has told Indian sports website Khel Now that the club has begun talks with Hooper in a bid to sign him.
"The club have considered his profile for the shortlisted options in attack and have been negotiating with him to reach an agreement."
Hooper made 21 league appearances for the Phoenix, providing eight goals and five assists.
