Kiwi Danny Lee is set for a top-10 finish and a six-figure payday at the PGA Tour's opening FedEx Cup Playoffs event, sitting in a tie for fifth with one round remaining at the Northern Trust.
During Sunday's (NZ time) third round, Lee shot a two-under 69 to reach 14-under for the tournament, where he sits alongside Americans Harry Higgs and Daniel Berger.
Lee's round included three birdies at the second, fourth and ninth holes, and a bogey (fifth), while another birdie putt on the 18th went astray.
While Lee is well positioned on the leaderboard, he sits a whopping eight shots behind American Dustin Johnson, whose seven-under 64 third round sees him five strokes clear of his nearest rival at TPC Boston.
"Obviously, I'm in a great position and like where I'm at, but I'm still going to have to go out and shoot a good score," says Johnson. "You can go low out here and guys are going low every day, especially with the conditions we have."
Americans Harris English and Scottie Scheffler - who shot 59 in the second round - are tied for second on 17-under, while South African Louis Oosthuizen is two strokes behind them.
This week's tournament, open to the top 125 golfers in the season-long points standings, is the first of three playoff events that culminate with the Tour Championship in Atlanta next month and the US$15 million (NZ$22m) prize to the FedExCup champion.
Only the top 70 in the standings after this week progress to the BMW Championship at Olympia Fields outside Chicago and from there, the top 30 move on to Atlanta.
