If Kiwi Scott Dixon is to win his second Indianapolis 500, he will have to do it behind closed doors.
For the first time in the 104-year history of the iconic race, IndyCar has confirmed no fans will attend the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, due to the COVID-10 pandemic.
The race has been moved from its traditional May date to August 24, after the season was suspended in April, with initial hopes the race could run with a 50 percent crowd capacity.
But with coronavirus continuing to sweep the United States, officials have decided to race for a television audience only.
"This tough decision was made following careful consideration, and extensive consultation with state and city leadership," Indianapolis Motor Speedway says.
Dixon, who won the event back in 2008, leads the Indycar championship by 49 points at the season's halfway point.
