Kiwi Scott McLaughlin has surpassed Peter Brock on the all-time race winners list, securing victory in race one of the Supercars CoreStaff Darwin SuperSprint.
McLaughlin dominated the 38-laps in severe heat in Darwin to record his 49th Supercars victory and extend his championship lead to 109 points.
Rival Jamie Whincup came home second after starting on pole, but the Australian was unable to stave off a fast-starting Mclaughlin who took the lead ahead of the first corner.
"The start was really pivotal, to be able to get in front of Jamie there into [Turn] 1 and be able to do my own race from then on. It was very tight but got there in the end," said McLaughlin.
"The pitstop was unbelievable so I’m really proud of the boys, they've been working hard. It was a nice start to the weekend."
Tickford duo Cameron Waters and James Courtney finished third and fourth, with the former having jumped his teammate by pitting one lap later, just prior to the two leaders.
Another two qualifying sessions and two 38-lap races will complete the CoreStaff Darwin SuperSprint on Sunday.
Shane van Giebergen came home eighth, McLaughlin's teammate Fabian Coulthard was 10th, Andre Heimgartner 15th and Chris Pither failed to finish.
Whincup leads the all-time list with 120 race wins.
