Laura Langman believes she's left the Silver Ferns in the best possible hands.
New Zealand's most capped netball player has spoken for the first time since announcing her international retirement on Monday.
Langman feels the time is right for others to take her mantle, as she no longer believes she meets the standards to pull on the black dress..
"I feel like I'm just not up to scratch for what's required at the Ferns," Langman has told Newshub.
Langman should know what it takes to compete at the elite level of netball, after playing a record 163 tests for New Zealand - the first 141 in a row - winning two Commonwealth Games golds and a world title.
Just don't call her the greatest of all time.
"I think the GOATs of the game are your Sandy Edges, your Irene van Dyks, Liz Ellis.
"I'm not in that group - I was just around a while."
Langman was around just long enough to help Dame Noeline Taurua guide the Silver Ferns to last year's Netball World Cup title.
"I think if we can do that in 11 months, imagine what Noels can do with a group over four years. Now, that's a scary thought."
Langman's convinced the Ferns have the leadership and depth in the mid-court to replace her.
"When one door shuts, another one opens and the Ferns have a ranchslider - it's very open - so it's exciting"
An exciting new era for the Silver Ferns looms, as Langman takes a step back from the spotlight.
