The Silver Ferns are set to face the New Zealand men's team in November as part of the Cadbury series to fill the void of international netball this year.
With uncertainty still surrounding the Constellation Cup, Netball New Zealand's working on a contingency plan, involving the Kiwi men, NZ A, and NZ U21 teams.
Newshub understands the proposed series is set to take place in November.
Last year, the NZ men beat the Silver Ferns twice in a quad series that also involved an NZ all-star side and Fiji.
Ferns coach Noeline Taurua credited the series for playing a massive role for their victorious World Cup campaign in England.
The men's and women's teams had never played each other in a competitive match until last year.
Silver Ferns captain Ameliaranne Ekenasio says the men's contribution will be critical to maintaining their standards, with so much uncertainty around future international fixtures.
"It's still a big chunk of our calendar where we need to find ways to still push ourselves," Ekenasio tells Newshub.
"We're hoping the Cadbury series goes ahead and we get to play the men again, for us that was special and you savour the memory forever.
"Hopefully we can get some games going ahead so we can just see where we're at."
With a decision on the Cadbury series imminent, one still has to be made around the annual Constellation Cup series against Australia.
Taurus is hopeful of getting Australia over to New Zealand for the series, but due to current travel restrictions, it is unlikely it'll go ahead.
