Rugby: All Black Braydon Ennor faces nine months on sidelines with knee injury

All Blacks midfielder Braydon Ennor's season is over with a ruptured knee ligament.

The injury to his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) occurred during Saturday's North v South match, won in dramatic fashion by South, 38-35.

New All Blacks coach Ian Foster named Ennor in his 35-man squad on Sunday, hoping the injury was just minor.

But scans have confirmed the Crusaders centre will be on the sidelines for up to nine months.

The 22-year-old, who has made one appearance for New Zealand and was representing the South in the first inter-island match since 2012, is expected to see a specialist in the coming days before undergoing surgery.

"It's hugely disappointing for Braydon, but he is a strong young man, and we'll be supporting him as he goes through his surgery and rehab over the next few months," Foster says.

No replacement will be named until the All Blacks have a confirmed schedule - likely some kind of Bledisloe Cup series against Australia - for the revamped season.
