Southbridge club was once again graced with rugby royalty on Saturday, as Dan Carter turned out for the Ellesmere Senior final in what could be his last game of competitive rugby.
But as it turned out, it was a lesser known Carter who stole the show - cousin Will Carter.
The two combined to guide their team to victory, replicating a feat achieved by their fathers back in the 1980s.
"It's pretty special," Carter tells Newshub post-match.
The All Blacks great was upstaged by his younger cousin, who crossed for a hat trick of tries.
"I've never been able to play with another Carter, so it's really good," Will Carter says.
But Dan definitely left his own mark with some playmaking genius in the 40-32 win over Waihora.
This could be the perfect ending for Carter, finishing where it all began. But the jury is still out.
"I don't know really," Carter says of an impending retirement. "I love it and the body is still feeling good."
For now, his mind will be on Coleman shield celebrations, which were only set to get wilder.
"A lot of drinking, but I'm sure he knows to keep up," Will Carter laughs.
