Sonny Bill Williams will make his eagerly awaited return to the NRL this weekend.
The 35-year-old cross-code star has been named to the interchange bench for Sydney Roosters' 2019 Grand Final rematch against the Raiders in Canberra on Saturday.
Last month, the former All Blacks midfielder signed a short-term deal with his former NRL club, after his debut season for Toronto Wolfpack was cut short by the COVID-19-enforced cancellation of the UK Super League.
Williams had to serve a two-week quarantine when returning to Australia and has been building towards a highly anticipated comeback.
He hasn't played any rugby league since March, undergoing minor knee surgery before the English season was canned.
Williams led the Roosters to an NRL title in 2013, scoring 11 tries in 45 games over two seasons, before returning to rugby in 2014.
Since his return to the Roosters, Williams has completed a separate training programme away from the main playing group and has reportedly struggled to recover from contact trainings last week.
He subsequently missed Monday's training session, but has deemed fit and ready to go by coach Trent Robinson, as they build his match conditioning for their push for a third-straight NRL title.
