Bledisloe Cup 2020: Jacinda Ardern celebrates with New Zealand as test rugby resumes

While most of the world is struggling with a second wave of COVID-19, New Zealand has just hosted an absolute classic test match between the All Blacks and the Wallabies.

It was a huge moment, not just for rugby fans, but for all Kiwis, as Wellington hosted the world's first rugby test match since COVID-19 halted life as we knew it.

While cases of COVID-19 continue to climb overseas, in this bubble it feels like we're almost back to normal.

"Just really pleased we've kept the borders secure, and look what we can do now," one person said. "Welcome to the rest of the world, paradise!"

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern cheered on the All Blacks and had a bet on the outcome with the Australian PM.

"I noticed he wanted to lower the stakes this time. This time it's a bottle of wine," she told Newshub.

It's been two weeks since we last had a new case of community transmission - with one person testing positive in managed isolation on Sunday. And it's a reminder to be grateful the game is possible.

"Our entire approach to COVID-19 has been about going hard and early so we can get to the position of holding events like this," Ardern said.

The game hadn't actually sold out when the gates opened this afternoon with many people picking up last-minute tickets to see the All Blacks play for the first time in New Zealand in 400 days.

"It's just a feeling of excitement. We'll be the envy of the world with all these events we've got going on," says Wellington Mayor Andy Foster.

And he had no criticism on the timing of the game.

"We'll take it on a Friday, take it on a Thursday - just glad to have it here!" Foster says.

The All Blacks now face the Wallabies next week at Eden Park.
