A thrilling finish to the Farah Palmer Cup final has given Canterbury their fourth title in a row, after an 8-7 victory over Waikato in Christchurch.
A try after the siren from lock Cindy Nelles was Canterbury's sole five-pointer, but enough to give them a historic victory.
Waikato put on a defensive clinic throughout the 80 minutes, but couldn't hold on when it mattered.
It wasn't either sides best performance, but the red-and-blacks were at their best when they needed to be and did enough to continue building their dynasty.
Waikato had plenty of opportunities, but they were never able to really build any pressure inside Canterbury's 22-metre zone.
But with 14 minutes to play, the Mooloos got their chance and made Canterbury pay.
From a quick-tap, a hard-running No. 8 Kennedy Simon crashed over, which looked enough to give Waikato their first-ever Farah Palmer Cup title.
Things really picked up in the last 15 minutes, which provided for an incredibly exciting finish as both teams sought to claim the definitive score.
It looked like Waikato had it wrapped up the game and the title when they had the ball with 20 seconds remaining. but the Cantabs won a breakdown penalty to give them one last opportunity.
That was all they needed, building pressure through several phases before Nelles barged through two defenders to break Waikato hearts.
