Golf: Lydia Ko makes strong start at PGA Championship

Kiwi golfer Lydia Ko has made an impressive start to the women's PGA Championship in Pennsylvania.

Ko fired a two-under par 68 at the Aronimink Golf Club to sit in a six-way tie for third after the opening round on Friday (NZ time).

She had a chance to finish the round tied for the lead, but she bogeyed the final hole to drop down the leaderboard.

American Brittany Lincicome and Kelly Tan of Malaysia are currently tied for the lead on three-under.

Ko's best results at the PGA Championships was second in 2016.

She hasn't won a tournament since April 2018, but she's starting to discover the form which saw her once ranked top of women's golf.

Meanwhile, Ryan Fox is tied for eighth after a decent start to the latest European Tour event in England.

Fox fired a four-under par 68, and is two shots behind co-leaders Tyrrell Hatton, South African Justin Harding and Spaniard Adri Arnaus.

Elsewhere Danny Lee is playing at the Shriners Hospitals Open - his first tournament since his meltdown at last month's US Open.
