The Blackcaps will get their first glimpse at the future on Thursday when a new look T20 side takes on the West Indies at Eden Park.
Four players will join the squad after returning from IPL quarantine, while some new faces in the team get a chance to impress with the World Cup on the horizon.
"It's an exciting time for New Zealand cricket, to see those guys come back and a chance for guys to make their debut and just a different group of players," says new batting coach Luke Ronchi.
One of those looking for a long-awaited debut is Devon Conway - the prolific Wellington Firebirds batsman is showing no signs of nerves ahead of his first international series.
"It's very exciting," Conway says. "Looking forward to getting out there for a potential debut tomorrow."
And as much as the Blackcaps will want to break their seven game T20 losing streak on Friday, it's also a chance for the likes of Conway to impress selectors, with two World Cups around the corner.
"It is about working out your best eleven," says Ronchi. Some guys haven't had the chance yet to play, while others are looking to prove themselves."
For Conway, it's about making the most of the opportunity he travelled halfway around the world for, which is exactly how the West Indies feel.
Batsman Rovman Powell says the Blackcaps can expect a motivated touring side, looking to build the blocks ahead of their World Cup defence.
"Guys are looking forward to it," Powell says.18 T20's before the World Cup, so it's a step for our guys to put our best foot forward."
