Cricket: Former White Ferns skipper Suzie Bates re-injures shoulder in Women's Big Bash League

Former New Zealand skipper Suzie Bates is back in the medical ward, after a short-lived Women's Big Bash League return for Adelaide Strikers.

Bates missed the first seven games of the campaign with a shoulder concern, which she aggravated, while fielding against Melbourne Stars on Tuesday.

The White Ferns batter will now undergo scans to determine the extent of the damage, but early indications are she will miss the rest of the campaign.

The Strikers captain was in obvious discomfort, cradling her right shoulder after trying to throw a ball from the deep, eventually leaving the field in severe pain and not returning.

Earlier, Bates opened the batting for Adelaide, scoring 28 from 23 balls, before she was stumped.

Melbourne Stars won the game comfortably, completing a five-wicket win with three balls to spare.
