America's Cup: Team INEOS UK sends warning to growing chorus of doubters

The man driving the British challenge for the America's Cup has used Team New Zealand's historic choke in 2013 as a reminder to those already writing his team off.

INEOS Team UK skipper Sir Ben Ainslie says he's got no concerns over his boat Britannia, despite it being described by one critic as the "lamest of ducks".

The 43-year-old has referenced Team NZ's historic choke in San Francisco as a reason why no team can be counted out just yet.

The British challenge has been stalled in recent days, with their absence from three practice races leading to suggestions their boat is struggling to get up to speed.

But Sir Ben - a veteran of three America's Cups - says the regatta is a marathon not a sprint,  and anyone doubting that need only ask the current defenders.

"You think back to 2013 and how fast New Zealand was at the start compared to the end," Sir Ben tells Newshub.

"The trick, of course, is how you mode your boat and make those improvements as you go through."

And Sir Ben is sure his team have plenty more to offer.

"It's very early days... I think reading anything into results at this stage is misleading," he says.

That optimism may not last, with low winds forecast for the rest of the week, which doesn't suit the Brits.

"Hopefully we get a stronger sea breeze," says Sir Ben.

"We're just trying to learn the other teams, the performance of the boats, and also there's five different racecourses."
