Blackcaps captain Kane Williamson has revealed he and his partner Sarah Raheem are expecting their first child later this month.
Williamson's revelation came hours after he hit a career-best 251, putting the Blackcaps in a commanding position over the West Indies after two days in their first test in Hamilton.
The Blackcaps declared on 519/7, with the West Indies to start day three trailing by 470.
Williamson was asked if he will take parental leave, which would see him miss game time, but he said he will worry about that when the baby does arrive.
"It's sort of wait-and-see," said Williamson. "It's a very exciting time in anybody's life and certainly in mine.
"We're just going to cross that bridge when we can and see how things unfold, but very difficult to pre-plan. Does a due date mean anything? I don't know."
There is a short turnaround for the second test against the West Indies, which begins on December 11 in Wellington. Afterwards, the Blackcaps face Pakistan in three Twenty20s, followed by the Boxing Day test.
Williamson didn't play in NZ's three T20s against the Windies recently.
With the baby not due until mid to late December, Williamson says his main focus right now is securing a test win over the West Indies.
"For me it was about sticking to my plans for long periods of time and then hope that when you get the good balls you miss them.
"Even towards the end of my innings I was playing and missing still, so there was a little bit there but the surface was certainly getting a bit better."
